Although political party preference is among those sensitive, hard-to-answer topics where interviewer effect is probably rather strong, no study has attempted to estimate the effect’s size. We tried to measure and, at least partially, explain the effect. Since interviewers work within a given area, interviewer effect is interweaved with the effect that geographical environment has on political preference. We found that (1) geographical environment significantly affects political preference, but interviewer effect does so to the same or, in some cases, to an even greater degree. (2) The effect can be partially explained by interviewers’ political preference or demographic attributes; (3) the impact of political preference is such that respondents tend to have a preference similar to that of their interviewers.
