My study aims to focus on one of the most rapidly developing towns in Hungary with the goal
of demonstrating that among d
omestic former industrial towns we can still find viable,
functioning municipalities that can serve as examples to imitate for other industrial towns in
need of development. Besides expanding on the opportunities presented by the history of the
town I also
elaborate on the fundamental changes that impact its life currently and even into the
future. Urban development and construction do not apply merely to the built
-
in environment,
but also to social and institutional structures which also entail significant
ly a number of local
actors. Such include the local population, the educational and cultural organizations and bodies,
furthermore, public areas and spaces which serve the whole of the town.
