A pályázat célja szerint egy korábbi OTKA-pályázathoz kapcsolódik. Annak témája Maróth Miklós munkája volt, amely egy anonim, görögből arabra fordított levél-regény tanulmányozása és szövegkiadása köré szerveződött. Annak a pályázatnak a révén világossá vált, hogy az arab prózairodalom az említett görög fordítással kezdődött Damaszkuszban már a nyolcadik század első harmadában, és erőteljes görög hatása alatt fejlődött. Ez azért volt meglepő körülmény, mert mindezidáig a tudományos konszenzus szerint az arab prózairodalom néhány évtizeddel később, a nyolcadik század derekán Bagdadban született, mégpedig perzsa hatásra. A megtalált és kiadott kézirat ezt a képet módosítja lényeges tekintetben. Ha pedig ez így van, akkor az arab prózairodalom születésével kapcsolatos nézeteinket általában véve is revideálni kell. Ezt a feladatot tűzte ki célul a pályázat több fiatal és tapasztaltabb kutató részvételével. 2008. évben kértük a költségvetés módosítását; az engedélyt meg is kaptuk. A pénzügyi beszámolót ennek megfelelően készítettük el. | In regard of the aim of the project, it is connected to a previous project of OTKA. The subject of that project had been the work of Miklós Maróth that had been centred upon the study and publishing of an anonym epistolary novel, which had been translated from Greek into Arabic. Due to that project, it became clear that Arabic prose literature had already began in the first third part of the 8th century in Damascus with that aforementioned Greek translation and it had developed under strong Greek influences. That was a surprising discovery because up until now it was held by scientific consensus that Arabic prose literature had not been born until a couple of decades later, in the second half of the 8th century in Baghdad under Persian influence. This picture is modified significantly by the discovered and published manuscript. And if all of this is true, our knowledge about Arabic prose literature needs to be reconsidered from its very foundation. That was the goal set by the project with the participation of both young and more experienced researchers In 2008 we requested the modification of the budget and this request was approved. The financial account was given according to that.
