Kivonat: Summary
A New Path in Education?
Nowadays distance education (DE) is no more an isolated or
marginal form of education in Hungary, as is proven by the number and diversity
of existing teaching programs. The role Hungary plays in the realization of
international projects in the Central European region is not negligible either.
This increasing number of DE schemes in Hungary has been accompanied
by the development of teaching models applied in education in general. There
is a tendency towards a more open pedagogy which includes the diffusion of multimedia.
In this process DE constitutes a form of education with increasing potential
which permits
- adult/or non-adult students to rethink and to redefine their
approach to knowledge, relying on autonomous apprenticeship assisted by new
technologies (supports) and by tutors,
- educators of today to begin to accustom themselves to and
prepare for their new tasks: in the 21st century the acquisition of knowledge
will not be done by the classical intervention of the educator.
In spite of the above-mentioned signs of development, the present
work is aimed at showing the most different aspects of traditional DE to Hungarian
readers. It only "opens the door" towards what is really modern in
the world of DE.
Why? The author - a DE export in Hungary since the beginning
of the 1970s - is convinced that analysis of the rather complex different factors
and actors of the DE system may still be a novelty in the eyes of certain Hungarian
readers, without speaking about supports and possible learning-process-aiding
tools which are/will be offered by the new technologies.
The reader of this monograph will very easily find the subject
he/she is interested in: history; concepts, definitions and problems; the DE
system; registered pupil/ student; educator/scheme developer/tutor; institutions;
the future (8 parts).
The author makes reading and orientation in her work easier
by inserting a little column - on the right and on the left of the pages - indicating
the plan of the given chapter. Otherwise, the question put in the title is not
answered by the author, but by the reader.
The author thinks that before a very large and forthcoming
diffusion of the new technologies in distance education in Hungary, it is urgent
that the participants - learners, teachers, managers, administrators - of this
future education know the complexity of DE factors in general: political, institutional,
organizational, pedagogical, methodological and media-related aspects.
If the technological progress permits Hungarians wishing to
benefit a standardized and mass distance education to build up their own educational
program, the authorities and the institutions must be ready to provide them
with a really open and "tailor-made" education.
