(Summary) Kivonat:
Summary
One of the major tasks of post-cold war political theory is to clarify the problematic of the proletarian dictatorship's ideological function. We faced statification instead of socialization; that means: socialization in a totally alienated form. For Marx, the dictatorship of the proletariat was only a brief transitional phenomenon which prepared the way for 'true democracy', the power-free social relations. It has but destroy the rearguard of the old order to lose in order subsequently and automatically every characteristic of power. But the state bureaucracy - mainly secret police -, which wants to maintain the existing form of political power because it is its own power, will suppress every movement that protests against this power. It is no accident that both types of twentieth-century movements which were permeated by the idea of community - namely, fascism, whose major version of the myth of community was the nation or the race, and socialism, whose central idea was the community-myth of the proletariat - could construct nothing but totalitarian rule. Bolshevism took Marx a step further: it eradicated from him everything that retained some sort of link with certain fundamental values created by the bourgeois world. Without a pluralism of power, society becomes unambiguously divided into two parts. On one side stand the leaders, the holders of political power (and with them all the others, among them the economic power holders); on the other side stand the subordinates, those who carry out orders. The monolithic structure of power suspends all public political discussions and prohibits the development and articulation of alternatives. The ruling elite cannot tolerate the public sphere in any form. The one-party system is a dictatorical form of domination which could function equally well without a party. Party and state organs cannot be differentiated at any level of the hierarchy of power. The unity of economic, political, ideological and legal power gives rise to the system's totalitarian character. Even when the system functions relatively "well" and no direct political terror is apparent, it nevertheless remains totalitarian, for there is no sphere of daily life void of political significance. The power apparatus is likewise incapable of generating a persuasive social theory because proletarian dictatorship has kept none of the promises made by its legitimating ideology. If we want to discount the ideology of proletarian dictatorship, there is nothing for it but to criticize the theoretical concept itself. megjegyzés:
